I have been involved with the Tag Rugby Trust ever since I toured with them to India in 2008 and it changed my life – I honestly mean that. It certainly changed my approach to Rugby and enriched my interpretation of just what it can achieve, specifically in developing countries like India. I cannot remember just what order it all happened in, but in 2008 I went to Kolkata with the TRT (then the TRDT) and met Paul Walsh – who introduced me to Abhi and others. I came to know the fantastic Jungle Crows, Future Hope school and of course Salien Tudu ….. the rest is history.

Meanwhile – I stayed in touch with Martin Hansford, Trev and the trust. Just recently, as a reward for the pro bono projects I have done for the likes of the Nile Crocs and Mbale elephants etc; the TRT decided to let me have a go at their own website – which I have been nagging them about for some time. Result!

As I was in the process of moving RuckinRugby over onto WordPress, I thought this would be a great opportunity to get stuck in and I designed the whole TRT website around a bespoke wordpress theme. I experimented with some new plug-ins, a new navigation tool and a widgetized sidebar, all of which I think have turned out well.

Over the next month we will really hone the nes updating and distribution services built in to this website and I hope to add a full report here once that is all running smoothly. I am aiming to get a really comprehensive approach to the social media channeling but with the absolute minimum of fuss – using things like Ping.fm and Dlvr.it to do the hard work. We will see.

You can see the website live here: TagRugbyTrust.co.uk

Have a look at it and let me know what you think, – I really like it.

This has been a long time coming but last night we managed to go live at www.Q8Saracens.com for the Kuwait Saracens Rugby Club. Hennie and Mike have been very involved with the design which is always welcome ….. to a point It got a bit heated, but the good kind – I like a client who pushes me to do more on the design side and I learned another new photoshop trick along the way, so it’s all good for me, RuckinRugby and of course Kuwait Saracens Rugby Club.Q8 chose the ‘Premium’ package as they wanted to make their website LOOK fantastic and stand out for their sponsors, I think we managed that. The Premium Package gets you a uniquely designed banner for every page, ‘graphic’ headings on every page in your chosen font and design – it also gives you unlimited pages and so I am sure we will see this website grow as the club grows.

From the offset I could see that this club understood what RuckinRugby is all about, what I am trying to achieve. It is a pity that more clubs in the UK do not understand, but I think this may be due to at least two major factors – 1) The UK in general is a lot more negative and apathetic and this can hinder any approaches to business for sponsorship – on both sides and 2) The clubs in the Middle East do tend to be younger, more active and maybe run by business people – Ex-Pats, that are used to making things happen in a short amount of time – before they move on.

The Kuwait Saracens are a new club, providing rugby for all ages up to 18 and I believe they will grow very quickly, because they have the right attitude – and we will be there to make sure they look good doing it and reach as many as people as they can. I will do a follow up to this soon with their feedback and also any progress on SMO for the club.

If you like this website and would like one for your club – whatever your sport – then drop an email to me on design@ruckinrugby.com.

A couple of years ago I went to India with the Tag Rugby Development Trust (TRDT) to spend a couple of weeks ‘introducing’ TAG Rugby to the children of Bhubeneshwar. I arrived a day early in Kolkata and enjoyed the added bonus of an extra night of hospitality, courtesy of one Mr. Paul Walsh. I met Paul in what was effectively the club bar for the Jungle Crows RFC, the team he coached – a fascinating tale in itself …… and went on for a fantastic curry and a very deep sleep! The following day the rest of the TRDT team arrived and off I went, thanking Paul and not imagining that I would really see him again. I returned to Kolkata 2 weeks later, but he was not there and I vowed to stay in touch from Dubai – and beyond. It was through Paul that I heard about Sailen Tudu. Tudu discovered rugby on the Maidan in Kolkata where Paul coaches the Jungle Crows and he was hooked, joining the Crows and going on to represent India. Tudu’s story is a fantastic one, as is that of his friend Zaffar and you should be able to read more about them and others on my website www.ruckinrugby.com – where I try to keep up with them both. My move to the Middle East in 2007 rekindled my love of playing rugby – as my body is incapable of doing so at anything less than 35 degrees heat – and this trip to India, along with tales from the Philippines and Indonesia relayed by my team mates in Dubai, bought back to me just how important rugby was for me when I was a young teenager – and I wanted to give something back. This is what Rugby Uncle is all about, for me.

The website is up and running now and will grow quite quickly over the coming months, but for now we want it simple and easy to navigate. You can join the facebook group from the homepage and the news feed keeps up to date with everything that is going on.

At last, Tiverton Rugby Club and RuckinRugby are re-united with a great new website for the second half of the season and ready for 2010/11.

18 months ago I was disappointed to discover that my own Rugby club here in Tiverton, Devon had decided to use another web developer for their website. Tiverton RFC are my club and I played for them from 10 yrs old until I joined the Army at 19, they were also the first club I ever designed a website for – in the pioneering days of RuckinRugby. The up side of this of course was getting another chance having discovered that the new ‘developer’ achieved no more than 1 single page in 18 months. So – I have now gone live with a fantastic new website for Tivvy – www.tivertonrugbyclub.co.uk – and after 7 L’s on the trot, we have been live for 3 weeks with 3 Ws ….. a good luck charm to boot!

I have experimented a little and embedded a Google Calender, hoping that some may use the ‘sync’ function available, we will see. Tivvy have been in need of a website to unify messaging and get information OUT there, and they are already using the selections/fixtures/results section very well.
